Desde La Bahia Latin Beat, October 1994

          Recently I received a CD from Pinguiro Productions out of Seattle, Washington from a group called Sonando, led by pianist Fred Hoadley. Bay area percussionist Michael Spiro's involvement piqued my curiosity and I was pleasantly surprised. The front line of Jay Thomas on trumpet, Jim Coile on tenor sax, and Scott Brown on trombone was very cool and reminiscent of the early Poncho Sanchez sound on Discovery with Clare Fischer. Pupi, Carmen's Mambo, and Cachao's La Trompeta y La Flauta are strong tracks on the date. (Jesse "Chuy" Varela)
